Install MIND AIoT Node OS
This step turns a supported embedded Linux computer — a Raspberry Pi 5 or Compute Module product — and a blank memory card into a MIND AIoT Node. Work on the bench, keep the power and internet connected, and finish the whole sequence before assembling the node into an installation.

1. Download MIND AIoT Node OS
MIND AIoT Node OS contains the full operating system and the platform software. It is a few gigabytes, so start the download before you prepare the card.
- Download MIND AIoT Node OS from downloads.mannamind.ai.
- Check that you downloaded the image for Raspberry Pi 5 or the Compute Module product you use. The download list can contain more than one version; take the current release.
- Confirm the file size matches the listing once the download finishes.
Supported node computers today are Raspberry Pi 5, Raspberry Pi 5 Compute Modules and third-party products built on the Compute Module. Support for more embedded Linux computers is planned.
You will also need an image writer. Balena Etcher is free and works on Windows, macOS and Linux.
2. Write it to the memory card
Writing the image replaces everything on the card. It does not need to be formatted first.
- Insert the microSD card into the card reader and connect it to your computer.
- Open Balena Etcher and choose Flash from file, then select the downloaded image.
- Select the microSD card as the target. Check carefully that you selected the card, not another drive.
- Start the flash. Etcher may ask for administrator rights. Allow 15–30 minutes.
If writing fails: try a different card, a different reader or another USB port. Confirm that the card is at least 16 GB and that Etcher has the permissions it asks for.
3. Assemble the node
- Insert the written microSD card into the Raspberry Pi 5, or follow the product's instructions for Compute Module storage.
- Attach the encryption key. Use exactly one key per node.
- Insert the USB memory stick.
- Connect the Ethernet cable with internet access. Addressing is automatic; do not set a manual IP address.
- Connect the power supply and switch the node on.
Wait at least three minutes for the first start. The node boots and prepares the software before it offers a local dashboard.
Raspberry Pi 5 is the supported node computer today; support for more embedded Linux computers is planned.
4. Open the local dashboard
- On your phone or computer, look for the node's WiFi hotspot. Stay within a few metres for this first connection.
- Connect to the hotspot. Your device will report that it has no internet access; this is expected. The hotspot serves the node's own dashboard and nothing else.
- Open a browser at 10.42.0.1 and enter the local PIN when asked.
The local dashboard is the install and service view. It shows sensor values, equipment channels and connection status. Climate profiles, alarms and data history live in the cloud dashboard instead — see Dashboards and monitoring.
5. Encrypt the node
The install page checks that the required hardware is present and then encrypts the node, pairing its memory — the microSD card or the module storage — with the encryption key.
- Scroll to the bottom of the install page and start the encryption.
- Keep the node powered and connected to the internet for the whole process. Encryption can take 10–90 minutes.
- You can disconnect from the hotspot while it runs and reconnect later to check progress.
If encryption does not finish: the USB memory stick is the usual cause. Re-write the card and repeat the process with a different, good-quality stick, and confirm the internet connection stayed up.
After encryption, the node's memory and the encryption key are a permanent pair. Keep both labelled and together. If either is replaced, the node is installed again from MIND AIoT Node OS.
6. Create the device code
- Reconnect to the hotspot and return to the local dashboard.
- Create a device code when you are asked for one: 4–14 characters, uppercase, no spaces. A short random suffix is added to keep it unique.
- Write the finished device code down. You need it for registration and support.
Leave the node powered and online. The next step, Register and link the node, uses the device code to bring the node into your account.
If something goes wrong
